It's time to see if Donna can handle the cutest purple dragon from my childhood.
Overview:
Remastered 3D platformer originally from the PS1 era, Spyro 1 tasks you with rescuing the dragon that have been imprisoned by Gnasty Gnorc. On your journey, you will visit many distant lands, collect a lot of gems and headbutt your way to victory.
What she thought she knew going in
Genre of the Game: I imagine it to be something like Crash Bandicoot

What's the story: I really don't know anything about it.

How difficult the game is: Not sure

Anything else: Spyro is a purple dragon and I know its not the first time it has come out but I have never played it
How it went
So Donna played for around 2 hours 100% many of the first levels and headbutting everything she could see, in fact it took her about 40mins to realise that Spyro could even breath fire. She also managed to get to grips with the camera controls very easily and enjoyed traversing the dragon universe.

Donna loves how to train your dragon and in particular toothless so I think although she never played this game as a child it is giving her nostalgia for that film and keeping her engaged in the game. Since our session Donna has returned to playing the game and managed to complete more of it, this is the first time she has ever gone back to a game after her not a gamer review.

What she thought
The game is super colourful and chilled out, the dialogue is quite Mickey Mouse esc and the game is not to trying which to be honest I absolutely love. It is also from what I have played so far not to challenging of a time to play, there are so simple platforming sections and some easy fights that either require you to breath fire or headbutt an enemy and I love headbutting things, it's so much I just ran around shouting "I'm gonna ram her, I'm gonna ram her!" for about 20 minuets when I first played the game.

If I had to say anything negative about the game it is that it doesn't do a great job of explaining how to play it, which by I mean there is no sort of tutorial and the game has this learn by doing sort of feel. What I will say in its defence though, is that the game is very simple and because of this I figured it out rather quickly and was able to enjoy the game in no time. To this I would also add that the games story is simple, like super simple but it quickly gets out of the way to allow you to start running around in the games world, in fact the only time you are reminded about the story is when you sometimes rescue one of the dragons from there crystal prisons.
Have I yet mentioned how much I love ramming things in the game its so much fun and when I get lost in levels because I can't remember where I have been or where I have to go I just run around for awhile at ramming speed until I come across where I need to go next. It also helps that Spyro looks super cute while doing it, he pops his little head down and at certain angles you can see he has his eyes closed bracing for impact, it's adorable. All of Spyro is adorable in fact, his walk, his jump, the way he wiggles his bum when he fly's like a dog is all to cute for words. The same can also be said about the enemies who all have funny and unique designs and the sheep in the first hub level that are so rammable that I can't help myself.

The game is great and I love it, the levels are pretty short and so makes for a great game to play if you only have 30mins or so, it's not to taxing and is a simple enough game for a young child to be able to pick up and play, although some of the more thought provoking platforming bits may stump them.
