PlayStation Classic-ally Disappointing

I purchased the PlayStation Classic the other day, as it was half price at Argos, and I have to say it is not what I was expecting. For £89.99 you get 20 "classic" PS1 games, well more like 5 classics and whatever else they could cheaply get the licenses for.

So the positives:

1. HDMI connection

2. Two controllers

3. Tekken 3

4. Final Fantasy 7

5. Abe's Odyssey

6. Resident Evil: Directors Cut

7. Metal Gear Solid

Some of the other games are also actually classed as classics but they are either worse then you remember or not the best the series has to offer, such as Twisted Metal it is a classic series but really Twisted Metal 2 was leagues better and I think is actually the classic one in the series (one the PS1 anyway). So why? why are so many of the games not anything to write home about?

I think it is either that what makes a "classic" is a subjective matter and personal to everyone, or more likely we are going to be seeing another PlayStation Classic in the next year with one major difference. The controllers, I think we will get one with the dual shocks.

This bad boy changed the PS1, it made the console a real contender and although games development companies didn't know to make the most of the new analogue sticks, at least for a few years time, it was a massive leap forward. It's impact is obvious as all major consoles now have two analogue sticks including the switch and the Xbox, in fact PlayStation have not changed there button layout since this.

If we see a second PlayStation classic this will be the one to have, well at least I hope so because there is just not enough here not for £90 anyway. Full list of games here. Don't get me wrong I am going to play the hell out of FF7 and Metal Gear Solid but I would have rather spent £90 on buying a PS1 and these two games I would have been happier because at least later on I could have brought the games I wanted to play, instead of being stuck with the other games that the classic came with. I knew that I was not gonna like every game on here but I was hoping for a few more than what I ended up with. Maybe it's me? maybe the games are awesome and I'm just a miserable git but with the Sega Megadrive classic retailing at £60 and having 81 games on it I believe that may have been a better deal.

With all that being said, it's time to make a cup of tea and go and blast my way through FF7 for the 6 billionth time it's gonna be amazing, but I gotta make sure I have my tea because I really don't want to piss Cid off

Until next time... Toby
