The Fallout of Online Gaming

We have all seen what has happened recently with the release of fallout 76 a game that I was never excited about and let me explain to you why.
Now let me first say that I am not happy that this game has flopped, no no I love fallout more than the elder scrolls but what I don't like is online gaming because at heart I am a loner. Okay so the real reason is that I love story in my games, true deep sometime convoluted story that can hold me in place slap me around a bit and shine a light in my eyes, and that is just something that you don't really get with online games.

I know that things like World of Warcraft have rich lore's and other games like Destiny 2 have amazing well crafted gameplay but you are not the centre of attention in these games because it is hard to feel like the chosen one when there are literally nearly another million chosen ones in this world. And I think there lies my real problem with online games in that it doesn't feed my ego in anyway because I now have share the spotlight with Fred the night time shelf stacker at ASDA from Runcorn, and let's be honest with ourselves the only real reason we play video games is to make our selves feel better. Video games empower us to do things we can't do in real life, make us feel like badass', be the saviour of the world and its really to feel like that when everyone else on the serve can also do it and probably more because there a higher level then you could ever hope to be with your 3 hours of spare time a week

I know I am in the minority here, actually I think I may be the last one, but I really struggle to get connected to the world of an online game and if I'm not connected I'm generally not having fun. I have tried many time's World of Warcraft, Guild Wars. Ruinscape, Warframe, Halo and I have just never been able to stick at it for more than a few hours.
If someone has a suggestion for me that could change my mind on this matter please let me know because I would love to stop being a grandad about this stuff and start being a modern gamer.
Until next Time... Toby
